I LOVE SUMMER SO FREAKING MUCH [July 04, 2009 @ 7:08pm]
[ mood | giddy ]

Today was and will continue to be fun! I went to Liz's and a whole bunch of us went to the pool, then back to hers for a cookout where I got good food and got to play with babies! Later I'm going to Freedom Fest (...) to watch the fireworks (as always) and I'm not sure who will show up...but after that Brittany, Leslie and I are going out to visit some guys at their party and then out for drinks. Tomorrow is my last day to pack and get things together for my trip to Texas and Illinois :) Ashes missed me so much from my trip to Florida that he has been overbearingly cuddly this week, and I'm afraid it will just get worse for him...

- The bellydancing performance was great! We had hundreds of people watching :S but we all did amazing and it was a lot of fun :D
- I had only finished my costume about 2 hours before it started :D and missed part of Jen's baby shower because of it...
- Weekend in Penn Yan, NY was fun. There was winetasting, a boat ride, dancing, and puppies!
- A few days in South Carolina = amazing mansions and southern hospitality!
- A week in Florida. Spread my Aunt's ashes, took a boat ride, swimming, German cuisine, shopping, downtown Disney, Mobster-themed dinner theater with Andrea, and saw UP in digital 3D :)
- July 3rd was amazing! We and our neighbors had a cookout with 40+ guests, $500 of fireworks (mostly illegal) and tons of food, beer, and funnnn~.
- My Aunt Brenda is visiting this weekend and it is lovely :)
- On Monday I drive to Texas with Susan and her family, and I get to visit with her for a week before flying to St. Louis and visiting with Emily for a few days, and hopefully go to Chicago for a day and we can visit with my friend DJ
- I have to be back on the 18th though, because Katie's big Harry Potter party is that night, and then we are seeing HBP the 19th. Can't wait!!!
- The 19th is also my dad's birthday (66!).
- A few days later, around the 24th, I think I am going to NYC for a night to hit some clubs.
- Then 1.5 weeks 'til Peru! Gone from the 5th-19th of August. I have the itinerary planned and approved and a spreadsheet of costs, from hotels to taxis and admissions :D It was a lot of work!
- A little over a week after that I begin my Navy internship

At the BBQ/my cute star tat :D ----- Me and mom at the performance!

At the vineyard in New York; I love the storms rolling in, it's so pretty.

My 8th post of the year? And it's a Friday 5! [June 05, 2009 @ 1:17am]
[ music | tinker-ing ;) ]

Me and my burr <3 ILU Sir Teddy McFluffington!

1. What do you feel is the most important quality in a close friend?
Trust and honesty. Knowing they won't try to hurt you and will defend you, and try to help you without being asked.
2. What is the one quality in a stranger you'd just met that would make you want to get to know them better? If they laugh at my jokes :)
3. What do you think is the most important quality in a good leader? Know the mission, the obsticles and use your common sense. Being a people-person would be a plus.
4. What is the one thing that makes a child likable to you? If they have manners.
5. What do you think is the one thing that makes a good parent (other than loving their children)? Wanting what's best for them and doing everything you can to make it happen.

Ohh mann, summer's here and I'm lovinnnnnn' itttt! This weekend:
- go ghost hunting with Lea
- finish my dance costume
- perform at relay for life!
- meet Joyce, Gloria, Sandy and Mary at American Bistro
- go out to the pub with Nikki(?) and Brittany
- go to Volunteer Appreciation benquet

- find a good dance club in NYC
- finalize Peru plans with Fiorella and Elea
- finish some gov't paperwork
- call credit card company
- mail those flyers to John
- have brunch with Janice?
- go to Steven's funeral? :(

I can't believe I just found my old friend Juuso on Facebook! We were in Japan around the same time, overlapping for only a month. He was in my class before going home to Finland, but we really hit it off. It's great catching up with him, it doesn't sound like he's changed at all :) Too bad I can't read his Facebook; it's all in Suomi :/

ALWAYS REMEMBER THE MAGIC
-Fellow Disney College Program Intern

"Not many people can understand that because they have not been where we have been, they will never feel what we have felt. But for those of us who were there, we know that we will never forget, can never forget, that magic Disneyland College Program. I can't think of another event in my life that has changed me so much. Coming back to the real world was the hardest thing that I have ever done and I know as it begins to be filled by books, professors, and tests it will only get harder.

But I know I am stronger now, I am more mature, and I have friends all over that share something very special with me. It was a moment when our dreams came true...when we enjoyed life and lived it as ourselves, the way it was meant to be lived. We escaped from the outside world, if only for a few short months, to our own magical bubble where life was simple, easy, and fun.

Whatever troubles or sorrows came with the experience, they were all worth it. I never dreamed that my time away from my comfort zone would change me so much. I never thought that I had the power to touch so many people's lives and be touched by so many. There is a great sense of belonging somewhere deep inside of me and I will carry that feeling forever.

No matter what lies ahead, I know that I have experienced how perfect life can be, and for a moment...it was. It is a special place for many of us, and to try to explain it to others is in vain. We throw out abbreviations like PI, DAK, ODF, MK, and even VKP like they are part of the English language and all we get is a room full of blank stares.

Everyone has their own happy place, but not many can share that place with so many others in a way that we do. It doesn't matter if you were with me when I first began, or if you went after...we all touched each other. It is a place that many of us will never be again, but, at the same time, will always be.

I can't imagine what my life would be like without that time, those people, and the whole experience. I pray every night and wish upon every star to feel that special again, and with a little magic...maybe I will. I hope that everyone who has been where I have been, and will go where I have gone can find as much joy and happiness as we found.

I have asked myself many times if I knew that it was going to be this hard to leave, would I have gone? Of course I would. I'd go every day of the week and twice on Thursdays (because that's PI night). Although we are now all spread out among many different places, in my heart I will always be in that happy place with my friends, memories, and that priceless, indescribable MAGIC."

I love how 95% of African-Americans can vote for Obama and not be called racist...and how about those Sarah Palin jokes crowding the airwaves? They generally came down to her being a female/mother/minority and McCain also for his age/race. God forbid a similar joke surface about Obama, barring those of his name. Absolutely ridiculous.

I have a surprise party to set up.

SUBJECT: BECKLEY STUDENTS: MSU’s SIFE Team [May 21, 2008 @ 8:16am]
[ mood | exhausted ]

"MSU’s SIFE team has again been named National Champions in the
individual topics divisions. They recevied the first place award in the
individual topic division Sam's Club Entrepreneurship Competition, and
were also named third in the nation in the individual topic division GE
Consumer and Industrial Program Sustainability Competition and finalist
in the Campbell's/Sealed Air Business Ethics Competition.

To say the least, we are very proud of the MSU SIFE’s organization and
their hard work to receive not one championship but another ranking as
well out of 777 teams in the US."

Sweet.

Though I was kind of hoping I wouldn't have to make that decision.

End of term grades -drumroll-:

Professor Kunrod: YOU ARE OFFICIALLY ON NOTICE for being the only hack in this joint to prevent my having straight A's, and for giving me a B for the third semester in a row! At least set up a grading system other than "you pass if I like you," puh-leeeease!

Oh, and they re-evaluated my transcript. Now I only need 2 classes to graduate. I would have piled them on this semester if I'd known >:/

We killed at regionals, won more awards and prize money than any other team. Were beat by arch-nemesis Alabama State Uni for regional championship, but accepted 1st runner up. Our van was hit and we had to call the fuzz to the scene. The hotel was a spiffy Hilton-owned resort and we all had a pretty great time. Shook more hands than necessary when introduced to company reps and execs; though asked for my resume 4 times, I had left them in the van accidentaly (such massive fail). Hung out with Dawn, Tara, Jay and Ben for the most part since there is a bit of a schism in our little family, but I also got to hang with Ramsey and Brandy some. Our team spent a lot of time at the fancy bars.

Right before the presentation. Sometimes Brandy and I really wear too much makeup.

Yesterday I worse a skirt-suit while working with Career Services hosting the career fair. I was approached by a rep from The Annex Corp. from NYC and was given a card after we traded words for a few minutes. When I got a break, I walked around and chatted up the vendors, introducing myself as a SIFE rep and, again, shaking an obscene number of hands. It paid off, the USDA approached us and said he liked how friendly and professional we were and is interested in collaborating on a project this summer! Which is fabulous because we are short on ideas. Though Dawn has requested I write a column this summer/next semester about...something. Business tactics and strategies, or community projects maybe? Didn't get the specs. Networking is awesome, though. I love getting down with people and throwing my name around. It was fun and I did it for 3.5 hours. I also love working so closely with Career Services. Out of the whole team, I probably see them more than anyone- we have gotten to point that Anita (head of the dept.), Jennifer (head Secretery of Doom) and I speak LOLCAT to eachother. Good pplz.

Tomorrow, [info]iwantasoda and I are heading to Charleston for her bday dinner and shopping. Hopefully I can keep my paws, and my plastic, off the pricier goodies.
